How I Healed from Lyme disease

Chronic illness has been a part of my journey in this life. It’s been my greatest challenger, the genesis of my darkest nights—and my greatest spiritual teacher.

I was in my late teens when I first developed a set of strange, nebulous symptoms my doctors couldn’t piece together. Chronic yeast infections, terrible migraines and stomach aches, abrupt weight loss, and chronic nerve and muscle pain. I was eventually diagnosed with vulvodynia, as well as several severe food intolerances, though there was still a lot to figure out. My path to healing was a labyrinth, one I had to walk myself to find all the pieces and fit them together.

The experience broke me open, but it also brought me to the altar of the living world and opened my perception to the luminousness all around me. When I started herbal school five years later, I remember sitting in the forest, gazing up at the old trees and feeling profound gratitude for the hardship I went through—because it had delivered me to this place.

After I graduated, I opened a healing practice with a passion for helping others move through complicated times of illness and spirit initiations. I felt I had walked up a steep slope and was ready to turn around and help others. So I did. But chronic illness wasn’t quite done with me…

Two years later, I contracted Lyme disease.

It was the beginning of another spiral in my life, one that would teach me so much about who I am and why I’m here.

It took me years, and a second infection of Lyme disease, for me to heal—but I did.

A healing so complete it still stuns me.

Even though my background is as an herbalist, it wasn’t herbs that healed me. Neither was it acupuncture or antibiotics (though it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying; I did ample of all three).

I cycled through so many different treatments over the years, but it wasn’t until I slowed down and truly embraced what Lyme was here to teach me that I healed—completely.

So this is my story.

It’s a tale of being initiated by a disease and finding ease with who I came here to be.

Of stepping into my role as a healer so I could see what true healing is.

Of embracing chronic illness as a teacher and becoming the teacher I was meant to be.

For years people have asked me to share how I healed from Lyme on a spiritual, shamanic and energetic level. I feel honored, finally, to be telling my story. May it be a beacon, a window, and an opening for you to find exactly what you need to heal.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over my years of cycling through illness (and supporting thousands of other highly creative, sensitive, and spiritual folks as they move through their own spirals), it’s this

Illness is a teacher. One that tends to appear for very specific people (read: sensitives who came in with big souls and big missions here on this planet).

So whether you suffer from chronic illness, chronic pain, or you’ve had profound experiences with acute illnesses, the invitation is the same…

Come learn about who you truly are, receive the piece you’ve been missing, and graduate into the next era of your soul’s evolution.

Are you dealing with illness and searching for deeper meaning? Or are you a practitioner supporting others who are moving through chronic illness?

Learning from illness as a teacher isn’t easy. But that’s not why we choose it. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. People who come in with powerful souls and missions often choose to learn through the teacher of illness.

Every presentation of illness and pain is different, fascinatingly so. But for the thousands of people I’ve coached over the years, there is always one commonality. When they were able to tune into what the illness was trying to teach them— about their bodies, their psyches, their sensitives, and their mission here on this planet—things shifted.

It didn’t always mean they were cured—but it did mean they healed. The suffering ebbed, the hope surfaced. They learned about who they were on the deepest level, and the wisdom they gathered sat nestled next to them like a harvesting basket. So whenever another challenge came along, they always had the tools they needed to meet the moment. To learn, to thrive, to transcend.

Learning from illness as a teacher has been such a profound experience in my life—I’d love to help you make a connection with your own teacher. Sign up here (it’s completely free) and embrace the healing that is waiting for you.

** Resources for Healing **

Stephen Harrod Buhner’s Healing LymeThe book that helped me design my own treatment protocol. When I was following a version of his protocol, this was one of the sources he recommended for sourcing herbs (See my own amended treatment protocol at the bottom of this resource list).

Divergent Acupuncture – Our body creates divergent channels to hold onto pathogenic factors that we weren’t able to fully deal with when we first encountered them. The treatment works specifically to bring these pathogens out of latency (or consolidate them), often bringing stuff up and out where it’s been quarantined by our bodies. A lot came up for me when I did it… old emotions, traumas, and bodily pain from injuries and illnesses in the past. I worked with my friend Greg Casey of Mystic Dao for my divergent sessions.

How to Undertake a Shamanic JourneyCheck out this blog post to learn how to take a shamanic journey for yourself.

Shamanic extractions A type of shamanic healing focused on removing an energy or consciousness from the personal body or energy field. I worked with my friend Julie Travis of Stone Flower Healing in my extraction experience.

Illness as TeacherA 1.5 hour FREE teaching designed to help you make contact with the unique spiritual lessons that are being offered through your own experience with illness, so you can invite in healing.

Asia’s Lyme Protocol – Important note: Lyme protocols are highly personal, disease-specific and should be tailored to your unique symptoms. This protocol is shared in the spirit of openness and collaborative curiosity and is not intended to treat, diagnose or cure. Please consult with your doctor or a trained herbalist before undertaking treatment.
