One of the biggest breakthroughs of my life
Me and my daughter have been sick the past handful of days. Like—laying in a pool of sweat while the world pitches around you—kind of sick. 🫠
This used to happen to me every year, right in the middle of a huge moment in my business. I’d override my capacity, ignore my body, push through to get the work done—and inevitably extend the illness by weeks.
But this year felt completely different.
I got sick and felt full permission in my nervous system to rest. I got sick, and even though I was straight up in the middle of a launch, with work that still needed doing, I felt a deep sense of trust and ease—because I knew my business was holding me. 🤍
It’s a wild trajectory, when I really think about it.
When I started 14 years ago, my business often felt like a needy child, demanding around-the-clock care.
Now, I feel—on a visceral, somatic, profound, and daily level—that my business, my work, my livelihood, the ecosystem I’ve built, actually takes care of me. 🤯
I’ve been talking a lot about breakthroughs this past week. Heck, I’ve been having a lot of breakthroughs (walking through Anatomy of a Breakthrough with you all has caused such a cascade of meaningful change in my world).
And it’s got me reminiscing about one of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve ever experienced—realizing that business is a spiritual journey.
That my business was a kind of spirit guide—here to show me who I am, how I am meant to use my energy, and what my true gifts are.
And that the very real blocks I felt within my business were the very things that were here to help me get free.
After I saw this, my business became a source of continual breakthroughs. Things like:
🐅 Realizing that my “woo-ness” wasn’t something to apologize for, but the very thing that made my work magnetic
🐅 Recognizing that my patterns of overwork came from trauma— and watching my business grow more successful when I slowed down
🐅 Knowing when it was time to let go of an iteration of myself (like saying goodbye to the apothecary) so a new version of me could be born
🐅 Understanding that I’m meant to teach what I’m drawn to learn—that my next passion will always be my next place of healing, which in turn becomes my next offering to the world.
And SO many more. I honestly could fill a book with things my business has taught me over these years.
