Wellspring people are here to remind humanity of what Earth energy truly looks and feels like. Water heals just by being itself and flowing naturally. Similarly, Wellspring archetype people aren’t here to do, they are here to be. A powerfully rare archetype, Wellspring people are like the sitting buddhas of the world; they exemplify the transformation that can come from patience, surrender and non-doing. Able to harmonize a room just by walking into it, this archetype is here to remind us that the most profound healing comes from embodying the fullness of yourself and trusting in your enoughness. Wellspring people hold natural rebirth energy for the planet and are here to help us to a return to a way of being that is slower, kinder and infinitely more in alignment with the Earth.
Wellspring people have a naturally strong zhi spirit. In Chinese medicine the zhi is related to the root chakra, the water element, and the deep places of the earth. Within our body, the zhi is connected to the deepest parts of our system, including our sexuality, endocrine glands and bones. The zhi typifies the deep yin energy of the Earth and is associated with the Earth goddess and ancient symbols of the Earth energy, like the spiral or the snake. The zhi spirit helps us accomplish our ultimate goal as souls on the Earth— to bring the light of our consciousness to the deepest places of our being and, by doing so, be transformed by Earth’s energy.
Gifts
Wellspring people hold the key to a turning point here on Earth. In the modern world, much of humanity has forgotten what Earth’s rhythms feel like. Wellspring people are here to help us reconnect with this grounded, rich, luminous, regenerative and creative energy. In Chinese medicine the zhi is associated with the kidneys, which are thought to hold the soul blueprints of our lives. Wellspring people, with their strong zhi, hold within them the blueprints of healing that are possible for the Earth. With their profound connection to peace and presence, Wellspring people are here to remind people that our destiny can only be seen clearly when we stop the ceaseless doing and tune into ourselves and the slow, deep voice of the Earth.
Wellspring people have the ability to cleanse and clear spaces with their presence alone. As Lao Tzu once wrote, “Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.” This is the kind of nourishing strength and effortless power Wellspring people carry. People who hold this archetype are natural healers, but their gifts shine most brightly when they have ample time to just be themselves (with not too much asked of them). Wellspring people will glow in any role that values the simplicity of their presence. They are the embodiment of the Dao and their whole purpose of being here is just to connect to their own energy and, by doing so, emanate wellbeing. If you hold this archetype, your presence alone is the healing gift you were meant to bring to this world.
Challenges
It’s been a long time since humanity, especially in the western world, truly acknowledged the value of stillness and presence. Because this energy is lacking in so much of our cultural mythology, Wellspring people often feel like they don’t have role models to look to. Wellspring people are meant to move slowly, so it’s common for them to feel like late bloomers or have had their intellect be underestimated, especially in the early years of school. Because we live in such an overly yang culture, Wellspring people might be typecast as lacking drive because they are not built to override their bodies with endless doing… but nothing could be further from the truth! Letting go of comparison and becoming comfortable with yourself in a world that struggles to understand the importance of slowness will be a life-long journey for Wellspring people. If you hold this archetype, everything you do on Earth will be incredibly potent and need a lot of time. If you push things it’ll subvert the very energy you are here to ground on this planet. As a Wellspring person, the great challenge of your life will be holding your center amidst the pressure to move faster, and truly accepting that your presence alone is enough.
Guiding Activity: Refilling the Wellspring Within
Wellspring people are here to transform the Earth through their gifts of slowness and immense presence. This guided activity calls upon the natural nourishment of water to help Wellspring people to remember their gifts.
1. Gather a Post-it or small piece of paper, tape and a glass of water.
2. Find a calm spot in your home, ideally a place where you normally like to rest or relax.
3. Place the cup of water nearby and then snuggle in for some downtime. I recommend resting here for at least half an hour, or longer. Wellspring people tend to be really good at relaxing, so if you have hours to just let go and be in your own world… go for it!
4. At some point in your relaxed state, invite a single word to come to you. You can ask for this word to come directly from the Earth, the Goddess, Kuan Yin, Mother Mary or any other nurturing archetype you feel connected to.
5. Don’t overthink it, you’ll know the word when it appears because you’ll feel peaceful when you repeat it.
6. Write that word on a piece of paper and tape it to the cup of water. Let the cup of water sit overnight.
7. The following morning, before you begin your day, sit down and drink the cup of water first thing. Be as luxurious with your time here as you can.
8. As you go about your day, spend time thinking about this word and imagine beaming it out from your body into the world. Let the word emanate from you in the checkout line at the grocery store or as you walk down the street. Notice how people naturally seem to soften in your presence, and how that word allows your naturally healing energy to be more deeply received. Remind yourself that you have done all you need to do, and that you are enough.
