Plant Communication
Open a deeper dialogue with the plants around you. In this video we’ll explore how to start receiving profound insight and healing from these denizens of the green world. I’ll go over the three things that you’re gonna have to throw in the compost bin in order to starting communicating with plants. And lay out a step-by-step practice for opening a direct channel with a plant so that you can become aware of the most profound knowledge of all—what your own medicine is.
This lesson is a moving one. Even though I have watched this video many times, there is still a part where, without fail, I cry every single time. Can you guess when? (Just goes to show you that we all need reminders.)
Inquiring minds want to know… which plant did you choose (Or which plant chose you?). What did it tell you? Let me know in the comments below! What movements are you feeling inside you today?

Hi Asia,
I did the exercise in with I asked the plant (it was pine) watt I could do for him and het answered ‘be happy, so we can reach you better’. Isn’t that beautiful?
Heidi that is beautiful! And such a pine thing to say 🌲😄
Everytime I buy or pick flowers, I talk to them about how beautiful they are. Never did i think of talking to plants. Im going to journal my first attempt and hope it’ll be great.
This is wonderful Sheena! We’d love to hear how it goes if you feel called to share <3 I think you're going to love the practice
A plant I’ve always loved is Lemon Balm, that springs up every year on the shady side of our garden..When, I
first noticed it growing, I was unsure what it was, till I rubbed the leaves between my fingers and smelt
that familiar lovely scent I always find so consoling.. I recieved some intuitive guidance while walking
yesterday just thinking about the plant but I will try the automatic writing exercise to see what comes
up for me.
Lovely Jenny <3 What a sweet way to confirm the presence of this ally, who is so loved for their smell! We'd love to hear how the automatic writing goes, and I'm so glad to hear the messages already started flowing in on your walk. With balmy blessings, and appreciation for this magic you've shared
I struggled with this at first… how am I medicine for the earth? I mean I can give the earth reiki or stand up for the earth where I’m able. But I don’t think that’s what this is exactly about. And then I realized- I am medicine for the earth just by being my tree hugging self! By showing others that it feels good to connect with plants and let the earth hold you. Thanks for helping me see that!
Yes Roxanne!!! I’m so glad that this resonated for you and helped you see the gift of who you are. What you wrote reminds me of one way that Asia has put it before—that we really are like flower essences for the Earth, changing the water of our culture just by being here as ourselves. I wanted to mention that one other practice that helped this truth land in a new way for me is that of sharing a strand of hair with a plant ally in nature. The first time I did this it clicked—just as the plant’s being is a gift and a medicine to me, my being is received in the same way. Thank you for hugging the trees, and for sharing your medicine here with us! We’re so glad to connect
How am I medicine for this Earth – oh that’s really beautiful! 🙏
Asia will be so glad that resonated with you Nicole; thank you!! I remember the first time I left a strand of my hair with a tree—what a profound moment when we realize that our own beings can be a medicine and a blessing too <3 Thank you for being here on this journey with us
Through the teachings of Asia and others I have already been working with plant communication for a few months (really my entire life but I didn’t understand) and the plant that has pretty much claimed me is Yarrow, as I did this lesson/homework/spiritual growth over my small alter I created, I was told several things. The first
“I will grow on your grave” to which I responded with acceptance and a gentle joy, “please do” and then was told after asking what I can do for the plant “I want you to let me in” I asked if it meant to my heart, and it replied “I am already there, walking with you, let me into your mind” and I did, as I worked with the breath exercises with it, the greatest tranquility came over me, and some very serendipitous occurrences happened after asking for guidance from the plant, and sometimes you just know when something comes from chance, or comes from something else. My deepest gratitude towards Asia for the guidance and space she gives to teach us how to better commune with the living world around us 🙂
What a beautiful unfolding Kris, thank you so much for sharing it with us here. I am struck by that message from Yarrow about already being in your heart, but waiting to be invited into your mind! So much wisdom in that one small seed.
And we couldn’t agree more about those moments when you just know that something is meaningful beyond coincidence :-). Thank you for sharing the magic with us—I know it will bring Asia such a smile to see today. We’re grateful to be a part of this journey with you!
I was profoundly affected by this lesson as it gave me a clear idea of the process on how to use your bodily senses and intuition to allow a plant to speak to you directly. I can completely identify with the feeling of not being good enough with all the attendant excuses in not taking up my current challenge of entering a more creative phase of my life and work on being able to express myself more openly.
I was told very clearly by Green Alkanet that it needed to be rescued from the perception that it was a weed and confined to growing on waste land. I then related to this observation to myself in always being more comfortable living in the margins of life and hiding my true self and what I value. I now have the challenge of expressing myself more openly with others, using all my senses, in expressing the ‘heavenly blue’ that can fill my soul with wonder and appreciation and not hide it. I also want to be able to paint and draw again, something that has been repressed for so long in my life, as I was telling myself it was too late and I would never be good enough to share my creations with others. To cement this intention I picked up a pencil and made a drawing of Green Alkanet as I took her wisdom into my heart.
I am aware that I shall sometimes have to use my bristles in creating a boundary against those who seek to ridicule or destroy my vulnerability in expressing myself more openly by being more direct with them. I also need to practice having a dialogue with Mother Earth until I gain more confidence in just being myself and be able to share my values on the outside so others can see and engage with me.
Thank you Green Alkanet for your wisdom ☘️
Hey Sarah, thank you so much for sharing this next powerful evolution of your journey with us. It’s been amazing to witness, and I can see how much bravery, care, attention, and intention you’re bringing to how your life unfolds from here. Cementing the intention with your drawing is magic in itself! Turning a “may it be so,” moment into “it is so” :-). Asia will be delighted that you now have more tools in your toolbox for deepening your medicine relationship with Green Alkanet. You have been leaning into these invitations so beautifully, and weaving it into your personal journey in what feels like a truly transformative way.
One thing that occurred to me as I was reading about some of your goals is that it can be helpful to me to choose just one concrete action at a time to bring those shifts to life (similarly to what you did with your drawing!) I can’t help but think that in sharing your journey, dreams, and values with us here, you’ve already begun moving in from the margins, allowing your true self to be seen and heard in this place. It’s an honor that we can be witness to the blooming!

Thank you Shannon for your wise advice in taking one goal at I time.
I think in that first rush of inspiration and gratitude I was getting ahead of where that path my lead.
I shall stick at the moment to doing pencil drawings of the plants who show themselves to me along this path.
Drawing again is such a huge step as it also reconnects me to my mother who was an artist and died when I was very young.. That expression within myself was repressed in growing up in an environment that endeavoured to wipe her memory out. I have now reclaimed her in my life and speak openly about her even though that is met with disapproval from my step family. Big steps for me but I need to test the ground slowly in little steps in order to ground my new beginning.
Thank you ☘️
Hi Sarah, I’m so glad that resonated with you in a helpful way! I also want to put so much affirmation and love behind your insights around what’s alive and nourishing for you at this time—every single part of that! For me, the “one concrete step” approach, rather than necessarily carrying the intention of releasing multiplicity, can simply be a means of taking more frequent stock of the shifts we are *already* enacting toward our myriad intentions (which I can see you doing so clearly in your posts). So all of that to say, we so believe in your intuition, and all of intentions that are calling you forward… At the end of the day, we simply love an opportunity to help encourage celebration of the wins you’re making along the way ;-). Wishing you so much support and tenderness through this powerful time of reclamation <3 Your inner knowing is a supremely valuable guide.
what’s the last video? I don’t think I received it in my email!
Hi Tracy! Thank you for being here with us. You can find the last video here. In case you would like to have a looks at it, looks like that email was sent you on Dec. 16th. I hope that helps, and am wishing you much beauty and connection through this journey!
Hello, Asia! Thank you for walking us through the steps of this wonderful assignment. I was drawn to a pair of beautiful towering trees while walking in the hot afternoon sun near my home a few days ago. Their trunks were slender and tall and it looked like they have been there for a while. I stood in awe at how beautifully grounded they are. Tall, regal and humbly proud. A sanctuary from the heat and a rest stop for the birds. A native spirit of the land – so at home and a home in itself.
As I looked up at its foliage, I saw a leaf spiral down and picked it up. Its veins were horizontal and the first thing that came to my mind was that they looked like a book holding valuable, timeless messages. I brought three fallen leaves home and placed them on my altar. I am loving connecting to the essence of the tree but indeed, I do still feel silly when I feel like talking to them – especially in a city where it is hard to find a place of solitude.
As I meditated upon the tree entering my heart space, I felt a rod of solid rootedness running through me – pulsing with the energy of the earth, a conduit of its beauty in its truest and rawest form. I tried looking up the the tree and I’m not completely sure but it looks like a type of Alstonia, also known as pulai in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Thank you for your loving reminder that we are enough as we are. 💜 It can be hard to feel like I am in the right place and worthy enough to connect to plants in a busy city in this part of the world.
Hi Madhu, Shannon from the team here. Thank you for sharing this beautiful connection with your tree, and your experience with these teachings. You have such an intuitive sense for it’s qualities and energies, and I’m struck by that solid rootedness and regal, proud nature that you describe—these feel truly medicinal and meaningful amidst that suggestion from the wider culture that your own connection to the earth might be “silly.” It’s as if the tree wants to help awaken an awareness of your own belonging, solidity, humble pride, and connection to the Earth.
And what a gift to sense the leaves as books containing wisdom! That’s a truly beautiful understanding, and feels affirming of the truth that your altar space is a wonderful, private “library” in which to connect when it does not yet feel as comfortable in public. Thank you again for connecting, and sharing the richness of these interactions. On behalf of Asia and our team, you are so worthy, and we are so glad to be on this journey with you 💜
